Everything I know about Italian culture comes from what I've read in books or seen in movies --- so I don't really know anything about the subject when it comes down to it. Needless to say, I experience a slight sensation of terror whenever I think about the culture shock I'm about to go through. On the other hand, the chance to discover a new culture excites me. I want to be completely immersed in a foreign place - with the people, learning new ideas, eating the food, and experiencing the lifestyle. I'll meet new people, learn, and become more independent, which is why I decided to spend a year studying abroad in the first place.
I have to keep reminding myself of this because...
right now I am freaking out!!!
But I know it will be okay ... there's a reason for all this!
Thanks to everyone who's been helping me out -- my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, the other people going through the same thing I am, and my friends. I don't know if anyone will read this blog but it will hopefully be a place where I can keep thoughts, pictures, and videos at the least.

Avery!!! i'm so glad that you have this blog so we can read what's happening over on the other side :D Although you are probably anxious/excited/scared... never forget to trust in God, for even in a place where there may not be as much physical encouragement, the Lord will always provide. I messaged Carla about a church in Florence, I'll let you know as soon as you messages me back. Know that we will be thinking/praying about you aves.
love,
tina
RARHHH! avery!

averyyyyy!! aw i will be checking in on your blog to see cool pics, stories, and more :) i will be thinking of you while i'm in china, esp. since i have ur lovely passport pictures (courtesy of nate fu) to remind me of you hehe.. know that He is with you even in Italy and going to grow you so much over there :) take care averyyy!
Look at it this way, your doing something that some people, like me, will probably never do in their college careers. It's a strange paradox to be going to a foreign country to learn, yet feel scared to first encounter it. But remember you'll be in our prayers here in the states and I hope that God's plan for you in Italy will grow you.
So I'm sure we'll all be checking this blog and don't forget to check mine out too.
youre gonna have soooooo much fun in italy !!! dont forget about us when you find our awesome italian boyfriend =P

Averyyyy. Oh my goodness, so you're really in Italy right now. It still comes as a shock.. the mere realization that you're halfway across the world. But don't worry. Experience to the max, and know that your best friends will soon be joining you in a couple of months. =) I LOVE YOUUUU
